KSDK - We have a few fall tree maintenance tips from local arborist, Karl Dreyer, Certified Arborist with The Davey Tree Expert Company.
When it comes to fall tree-planting, Dreyer recommends selecting trees native to this area -- like Dogwoods or Redbuds. Make sure to pay attention to where you're planting. Be aware of sidewalks, other trees, wires and your house. Always follow up with proper maintenance like mulching, watering, pruning, fertilization and insect/disease control.
For infestation problems, specifically the Emerald Ash Borer, Dreyer recommends contacting a professional. He advises to be proactive because every ash tree in the area is susceptible to invasion by the destructive insect. He lists some key signals of invasion: "D-shaped" holes high in the tree or woodpeckers high in the trees (searching for the Emerald Ash Borer).
