TANICA RUSSELL, KSDK
East St. Louis, Ill. (KSDK) - East St. Louis schools will get a big boost in mathematics education thanks to an area company.
East St. Louis School District 189 has been awarded a $90,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund to strategically improve math performance.
The money has already been spent toward new math curriculum books, which were purchased for kindergarten through third-grade students. The books will align to the Common Core state standards, a nationwide initiative that is being implemented in Illinois this school year.
Education resources on the Common Core can also be found on the district's homepage.
