West Alton flooding, June 5 - PHOTOS

West Alton residents are anxiously watching a second levee that is in danger of failing.
Rivers Pointe Chief Rick Pender told NewsChannel 5 they are "anticipating the levee will fail" west of Highway 67 and north of Highway 94 and they are building a berm in case it is needed. The levee is located between the Ameren power plant and Portage Des Sioux.
Farmland around West Alton is already flooded after the Consolidated North County Levee breached Tuesday on the east side of Highway 67 near Red School Road. The breach sent water pouring into the city and forced dozens of families out of their homes.
