St. Louis (KSDK) - Thousands were without power in both Missouri and Illinois early Thursday evening.

The Ameren Illinois outage map indicated there were around 4,000 people without power in and around the Collinsville and Maryville, Illinois areas shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday.  By 6 p.m. that number had been cut in half, and all power was restored to the area by 8 p.m.

The Ameren Missouri outage map indicated there were around 2,500 people without power in the Chesterfield, Ballwin, and Wildwood areas as of 4:30 p.m.  As of 8:45 p.m. only around 900 remained without power.

Kent Martin with Ameren Missouri says the outage on the Missouri side is due to the failure of a feeder line to a substation.

An Ameren Illinois spokesperson says the outage there was due to a blown transformer.

Customers without power are reminded to keep refrigerator doors closed to keep food fresh, to stay hydrated, and to check on the elderly.
