JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - A former state police officer who led the investigation into the death of Drew Peterson's third wife has told jurors he hadn't investigated a single murder before arriving at the home where the woman lay dead in her bathtub.

The now-retired Illinois State Police sergeant, Patrick Collins, took the stand Wednesday morning as prosecutors continued their attempts to convince jurors the investigation of Kathleen Savio's 2004 death was bungled.

Collins told jurors he was told by a subordinate about 10 minutes after he got to Savio's suburban Chicago home that her death appeared to be accidental.

Peterson was only charged in Savio's death after his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007. He's denied any wrongdoing.
