Springfield, IL (KSDK) - The Illinois Department of Public Health says three cases of the H3N2v influenza virus have been detected.

They say those infected with the virus are children and have all had contact with swine at fairs in central Illinois. None of them have been hospitalized.

H3N2v is a form of influenza A, and around 225 cases in nine states have been confirmed this year. Most of the infected have had contact with swine. There is no evidence the virus can be transmitted person to person.
