ALTON, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man is accused of dragging a puppy along a downtown sidewalk in the Mississippi River city of Alton.
The (Alton) Telegraph reports that 38-year-old Michael Thomas of Alton is charged in Madison County with a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.
Authorities say witnesses saw Thomas allegedly mistreating the yellow, 3-month-old female Labrador as he tried to walk it for several blocks last Saturday.
The newspaper reports the dog had abrasions on two legs and was taken into the custody of animal control officers.
Thomas does not have a listed home telephone number, and online court records don't show whether he has an attorney.
