CARLYLE, Ill. (KSDK) - A United States Marine was laid to rest in Carlyle, Ill. Wednesday.
Cpl. Aaron Ripperda of Highland, Ill. and six others died last month during a training exercise in Nevada.
There were flags as far as the eye could see, not just in Highland, but also in Carlyle, through the city and the St. Mary's Cemetery.
The 26-year old Highland High School graduate was remembered and honored at a funeral at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Cpl. Ripperda played football and basketball in high school and wanted to attend SIUE business school. Friends and relatives described him as a good person.
He leaves to mourn him his mother, father, and sister.
