Nathan Horath killed after his bike was struck by a car

ST. PETER, Ill. (KSDK) - A 15-year-old St. Peter boy was fatally injured early Friday morning when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Illinois Route 185 about a mile and a half east of St. Peter.

Nathan Horath was hit from behind by a southbound Pontiac being driven by Sandra Gelsinger of Brownstown, Ill. Horath had been riding his bike near the center of the road. Weather conditions were poor, according to a news release, and it was prior to daylight.

Horath was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:22 a.m. by Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen. The crash remains under investigation by the Fayette County Coroner and Illinois State Police.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital.
