(KSDK) - A high school student shot by police at Westminster Christian Academy in Creve Coeur on Wednesday has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and carrying a loaded gun on school property.
Police say the incident started off-campus when Austin Vincent, 17, reportedly sent a friend a text message, saying he was going to commit suicide. The message was passed on to a guidance counselor. Parents were called and police put out an all points bulletin.
School was dismissed at 3:00 p.m., but many students remained on campus. About 45 minutes later, Vincent showed up at school driving his mother's car. He got out of the car carrying a rifle.
Police say he pointed it at himself, then toward officers, ignoring commands to drop the weapon. Officers fired three shots, and at least one struck Vincent in the leg.
He was rushed to an area hospital in stable condition.
Vincent was expected to be arraigned Friday in St Louis County Circuit Court.
