LMFAO is done party rocking.
Redfoo and SkyBlu, the uncle and nephew duo known as LMFAO, upset the music/dance world this morning when word starting spreading the two are breaking up.
"I feel like we've been doing this for so long, five or six years," Redfoo, 37, told News.com.au. "And we're kind of like saying, well, let's just do what's natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time."
Redfoo, whose real name is Stefan Kendal Gordy, is the son of Motown founder Berry Gordy. He added that he and SkyBlu, (real name Skylar Gordy) were going in "different directions" and didn't know when they'd reunite again to make music. The uncle and nephew team first began performing together in 2006, releasing their debut album Party Rock in 2009.
But it's just a break for the two so they can work on separate projects. Redfoo has been coaching tennis and plans to create a line of tennis clothing, in addition to continuing with his solo musical work, he said in the interview.
He has been commissioned to come up with a tune for the New England Patriots. "I'm actually working on a song for them, because they asked me to write a song for their season," he said.
He still plans to always be "making some kind of party music," and he'll still see SkyBlu, even if it's only at family holidays in the near future.
"I think that we naturally just started hanging with two different sets of people, two different crowds, but we're always family," he said. "He'll always be my nephew, I'll always be his uncle."
