St. Louis (KSDK) - A puppy severely injured after being dragged behind a truck last week is improving slightly.

The 5 ½-month-old pit bull puppy Humane Society caregivers named Trooper is being treated for injuries to his face, ears, shoulder, legs, and right side.  They say he may lose his front right leg.

Police and the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force were dispatched Wednesday, November 28 after a driver on Interstate 55 pulled over and found Trooper tied to the back of the truck.

The driver was very distraught and said he did not know the dog or how it became tied to his vehicle.

Trooper was wearing a collar and leash, but did not have an ID tag or a microchip.

"This puppy has experienced severe trauma and horrible injuries and his condition could change quickly," said Dr. Wright, Director of Shelter Medicine for the Humane Society. "However, we are doing everything possible to support his recovery, reduce the chances for infection and keep him out of pain. The fact that he has survived thus far is amazing. He's truly living up to his name and is a real Trooper."

The Humane Society of Missouri is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. Anyone with information should call the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Abuse Hotline at 314-647-4400.
