SAN DIEGO (CNN) - This little guy got a clean bill of health during a routine check up this week at the San Diego Zoo. In fact, veterinarians here diagnosed this cuddly giant panda cub with "acute cuteness."

He turned six months old this week, and doctors say he is growing and gaining weight as expected.

He's up to 19.4 pounds now, and he is over 34 inches long.

The zoo says, all in all, he's doing great.

"Xiao Liwu was extremely well muscled. You can tell that his hind limbs are nice and lean, probably from climbing on exhibit. The other thing that was noticeable was how agile he was," said Matt Kinney, DVM, veterinary resident at the San Diego Zoo.

The zoo's giant pandas are on loan from the People's Republic of China as part of a research program.

According to the zoo, it's believed there are only 16,000 giant pandas left in the wild.
