ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Pieces of jagged concrete have been falling off the Plaza Square apartment complex on 16th and Olive for at least a week. When we went by to check it out Thursday morning we found one piece that weighed more than 3 pounds.

A viewer witnessed one piece falling while walking to a St. Louis Blues hockey game and he was so concerned he called the cities Citizens Service Bureau to report it. The call was made January 29th and when he went to another Blues game Tuesday he was surprised to see nothing had been done.

Maggie Crane, a spokesperson for Mayor Francis Slay said building inspectors contacted the owners of the complex and they put up caution tape but it was repeatedly torn down. Crane said Mills Properties plans to install a construction fence first thing in the morning and inspectors will continue to monitor the site until it is remediated.

Calls to Mills Properties were not returned.

Just yesterday stone and bricks from a building at Locust and Leffingwell smashed a mailbox. Moments before the crash, an eyewitness told us she had just put a letter in that box. Building inspectors say when water gets behind brick or plaster the freeze/thaw effect can cause these problems which are fairly common this time of year.
