WASHINGTON (WJLA/CNN) - Rapper Nas is coming to the aid of a struggling family of nine in Washington, D.C. after their home burned down.
Nas was moved by a report on the news while visiting Washington.
The family is facing tough times. The mother died a year ago. The single dad, Stanley Young, is raising eight kids. He's an unemployed construction worker desperate for a permanent roof over their heads, after a fire destroyed their home. The family must vacate their hotel on Tuesday.
Nas has stepped in, starting an online donation page. So far, it's raised nearly $40,000, with a target of $50,000.
The father is touched by the response.
"It's been surprising how much they did within a couple of hours. That is so amazing to me," said Young.
On the website, Nas, also a single father, says he believes people should come together to help their fellow Americans in desperate situations.
