USA TODAY - Fox and Ryan Murphy decided weeks ago that a tribute episode was the best way to pay their respects to Glee star Cory Monteith.
But Jane Lynch says it's going to be a tough one for all involved to film.
"It's gonna be awful," Lynch told E! News. "It's gonna be terrible. It has to be done but it's gonna be awful." The cast has been aided by a grief counselor on set, and will begin the episode soon. "We haven't started yet and I think we start on Friday," said Lynch. "I haven't seen the script yet."
The episode will pay tribute to both the character Finn and Monteith, and will air as episode three of the new season. The first two episodes will be the previously planned Beatles tributes. "It would be difficult to come out of the gate right away and then recover" from a memorial tribute, noted Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly during the TCA Summer Press Tour. The Monteith tribute episode will be accompanied by public service announcements taped by the remaining cast.
Murphy has said that the episode will not mirror Monteith's death, who died of a drug overdose in Vancouver in July. "Basically, what we're doing is we're not telling you yet, or maybe at all, how the character died," Murphy said.
At the Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 11, Lea Michele was named Choice TV Actress, and thanked Glee fans for all their support while wearing a necklace that said "Cory." "For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we're gonna get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world."
