St. Louis (KSDK) - With our unusually warm weather Monday, GOP candidate Rick Santorum told a crowded auditorium at St. Charles Community College in Cottleville that it felt more like Florida.

But the former Pennsylvania senator is not spending time in Florida the day before the important primary there. He was in Missouri, where our upcoming primary isn't even binding.

Santorum says that doesn't matter to him. He wants to win Missouri, a state one of the front-runners, Newt Gingrich, didn't even file in to have his name on the primary ballot.

"It's an important state and, you know, the primary will, I think, be a great sign that, you know, we've got a lot of life and support in this campaign, number one. And number two, you know, we've got the caucuses coming up and the primary is certainly going to have an influence on voting at the caucuses too," said Santorum.

"It shouldn't be seen as a sign of strength, but it should be seen as a sign of a smart move for somebody who's behind in the polls," said Political Analyst Dave Robertson.

NewsChannel 5 contacted the camps for the remaining three republican presidential hopefuls to find out of a trip to Missouri is in their futures. They haven't responded.
