CHICAGO (AP) - A suburban Chicago man has been charged with continuing a financial crimes enterprise in connection with the theft of two checks totaling more than $50,000 from President Barack Obama's national campaign headquarters.

The Cook County state's attorney's office says the charge against 48-year-old Willard Elam of Dolton was filed Friday. Chicago police say a second man is custody, but hasn't been charged, and a third man is being sought.

Authorities say the checks, which were stolen last week, were made out to legitimate businesses. However, the suspects deposited them into phony accounts they established under the names of the businesses.

State's attorney spokesman Andy Conklin says an investigation into the theft continues. It was not immediately known if Elam has obtained legal representation.
