(CNN) - Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has made a move off the field that may not sit well with some people.
He got a dog for his family.
Vick was convicted and sent to prison for running a dog fighting ring. Part of his probation banned him from owning a dog, but that restriction ended this summer.
The story came up after Vick tweeted a picture of his daughter studying at the kitchen table, with a box of dog biscuits visible in the shot.
In a statement released by his PR firm, Vick said the pet is "well cared for and loved a member" of his family.
Vick goes on to say that he sees having a dog as an opportunity to "break the cycle" and to help his children develop healthy relationships with animals.
