CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Tribune is endorsing President Barack Obama for a second term, saying he's shown steady leadership on the economy and world affairs.

The newspaper posted the endorsement on its website Friday afternoon.

It praises Obama for "pragmatism and focus" as he led efforts to stabilize the U.S. economy. It also says he's been decisive in handling the nation's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan and careful about projecting military power abroad.

The Tribune rapped the president for failing to do enough to reduce the nation's debt, especially when Democrats controlled Congress during his first two years in office.

But it said Republican nominee Mitt Romney has been "astonishingly willing" to change his views to suit political whims, and his budget proposals are questionable.

The Tribune also endorsed Obama in 2008.
