WOODBURN, Ore. (KPTV/CNN) - Police in Woodburn, Oregon found a missing elderly couple 400 miles north of their Christmas Eve dinner destination.
The couple, who are in their 80s, headed out for what was supposed to be a 10 minute drive to their daughter's house in Redding, California Monday night.
When they didn't show up, their daughter reported them missing.
Authorities found them Tuesday night. Troopers say the two drove north until their car ran out of gas, on I-5 near Woodburn.
They say the woman needed an oxygen tank and they were confused.
But no one was hurt.
"They were, we believe, suffering from dehydration. They had been driving for 12 hours, no food, no sleep, no water," said Sgt. Craig Ball with Oregon State Police. "We're unsure how they made it this far and until they can tell us the whole story, it's a mystery."
Troopers say they're very happy with the way this turned out.
The couple was taken to a hospital for evaluation, and the family was making arrangements to drive to Oregon to pick them up.
