CARSON, Calif. (KTLA/CNN) - Six families are suing a California Lutheran preschool after they say their children were exposed to sexual activity.

The parents allege children as young as 4-years-old either witnessed or participated in sex acts with each other when teachers weren't looking.

"Four-years-old. His life hasn't even begun. It's crazy," said Richard McCarthy, an upset parent.

McCarthy broke down as he talked about the shocking sex acts that allegedly took place between his 4-year-old son and several other 4 and 5-year-old girls and boys at a Lutheran preschool in Carson.

He's outraged with the school's lack of supervision.

"Man that just gets my gut that they ruined my son," said McCarthy.

Another father, who only wants to be identified as John Doe, is also outraged by the school's lack of action.

He says his little girl was involved.

"Basically said she saw another child and, you know, everything that transpired after that was based off of what she saw," said Doe.

He said school officials apparently knew about the alleged sex acts last September but covered it up, didn't alert parents, and the lewd behavior continued for months.

It's unclear at this point how many kids were involved in the sexual activity that parents believe occurred during nap time in the classroom, on a playground and in the outside bathroom.

Also unknown is which child introduced the sex act to the others.

"It seems like pretty much every child in that class either participated or witnessed it," said attorney Greg Owen.

Owen, who is representing four boys and two girls who were allegedly involved in or witnessed these encounters, will be filing a lawsuit against the school.

"We have talked to a parent whose child just witnessed this many, many times and the parent old us that the child was scared sick," said Owen.

The California Department of Social Services investigated the preschool over the past few months and cited the school for sexual contact and inappropriate touching between children because of lack of supervision.

The Lutheran preschool will be closing its doors this Friday, the pastor said in a statement, because the school director resigned for personal reasons, and nothing to do with the sexual allegations.

Social Services also cited the school for having an improper teacher-child ratio.
