ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) will introduce an amendment on Friday that she unveiled exclusively to NewsChannel 5 on Thursday night.
Since Congress couldn't come to an agreement on what cuts to make to avoid the sequester she wants members of the senate and house to cut their pay by the same amount that a federal employee might have to take in a furlough.
"So if we end up having to tell a federal employee that youre only going to get a paycheck four days a week then we should take the same kind of pay cut," she said. "So we're going to try and see if we can get the senate and the house to cut our pay the way federal employees might have to be cut."
$85 billion in automatic across-the-board cuts begin on Friday, split between defense and domestic spending programs.
