MACON, Ga. (WMAZ) - A professor from Middle Tennessee State University traveled down I-16 over the weekend in his car that uses no gasoline as part of his coast-to-coast trip.
Dr. Cliff Ricketts made a pit stop in Macon to talk about his modified car that runs on alternative fuels. He wanted to illustrate, with his hydrogen-hybrid vehicle, that the United States can be energy independent if it needs to.
MTSU sent out a press release detailing the car, its fuel type and consumption and Ricketts' 2,600 mile journey.
He started on Tybee Island on Saturday, March 9, and plans to get to Interstate 40 for the rest of his cross-country trek, by March 14.
