VALLEY, Ala. (WTVM/CNN) - An Alabama high school student is facing drug and weapons charges after a surprise raid on campus.
Police say they found an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, and marijuana in the Valley High School student's car.
The 16-year-old was taken to a youth detention center on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds.
The raid put the school on lockdown Thursday afternoon.
"I was sitting in the classroom and our principal Mr. Davidson came over the loud speaker and said we're on lockdown so we had to stay in the room for about an hour and 30 minutes. After that we found out it was drug dogs that came through and got us out of class," said student A.J. Hadaway.
Police say the raid also uncovered other drugs on campus, unrelated to the 16-year-old student's case.
