COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KOCO/CNN) - A former soldier is accused of killing his mother and injuring his stepfather during a family gun fight in Oklahoma.
It happened just months after the man was interviewed about another family tragedy, that of his girlfriend killing his child.
"Everybody has their little imperfections," said Matt Strickland, a year and a half ago as he described his girlfriend, who killed his 1-year-old daughter.
The abuse happened at Union Heights, where Strickland was living as a soldier stationed at Fort Carson.
Who knows what Strickland would say to describe himself today after being accused of killing his mother and wounding his stepfather in a gun fight in Luther, Okla.
"There was some sort of altercation between the three," said Mark Myers with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office.
Oklahoma County deputies say Strickland was dressed in what is described as full tactical gear when he was taken into custody. Dozens of bullet holes cover the front of the trailer home.
Authorities say Strickland, his mother, and stepfather were all armed when the gunfight started.
"All three were armed and began shooting at each other," said Myers.
Officials haven't released why this man, who was broken at the loss of his little girl, would bring even more sorrow on his family.
His stepfather was shot multiple times but is expected to survive.
Strickland faces charges of murder and attempted murder.
