GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD/NBC) - Doug Kuiphoff and his family, including his autistic son Robert and his "Paws with a Cause" service dog Brice, planned a day at the zoo Sunday for Robert's birthday when officials turned away Brice.
When the family got to the gates at Lansing's Potter Park Zoo, they found Brice was not welcome unless they could answer a number of questions and produce a lot of paperwork.
"We have to be able to verify that his health record is current or we can't let him into the park. You'll have to leave him out in your vehicle." Kuiphoff said he was told by a gate attendant.
All of which is apparently illegal under federal and state law.
