WASHINGTON, DC (KSDK) - A group of retired female service members joined Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill on Capitol Hill to discuss new ways to combat sexual assaults in the military.
At Thursday's event, Senator McCaskill said the solution should start at the top.
"We believe that the only way to hold command accountable is to make them responsible; not to completely remove their responsibility," she said. "We believe that's a recipe for disaster."
The senator is one of several lawmakers to introduce reform legislation regarding sexual assaults in the military.
The reforms are still being debated in Congress.
