SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida man who authorities say killed his 26-year-old wife then apparently posted a photo of her corpse on Facebook is being held without bond.
Derek Medina appeared before Miami Judge Maria Elena Verde via video Friday to face the first-degree murder charge against him. He was wearing a green jumpsuit.
The public defender's office was appointed to represent the 31-year-old Medina, who turned himself in to police on Thursday after Jennifer Alfonso was fatally shot inside the couple's home in South Miami.
A neighbor at the townhome community where Medina and Alfonso lived said Friday that Medina told him he possessed a concealed weapon permit and was a neighborhood watch volunteer at the complex.
