St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A new report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the number of children in St. Louis murdered by gunshots is the second highest in the USA.

Kim Hamilton, a St. Louis mother who lost her 16-year-old daughter to gun violence, says some days are better than others.

"It is lonely. It's lonely. I miss her so much," she said.

Hamilton's daughter, Jade, was shot in the neck last year in a south city park. Jade died at the scene.

The report shows that the gun murder rate in St. Louis for 10 to 19 year olds is second only to New Orleans. The numbers are from the years 2006-2007. Officials say rates are lower so far this year for the larger St. Louis region, but gun violence among young people is still a big problem.

Hamilton has a Facebook page dedicated to solutions to gun violence among teens called Team Jade.

"Loopholes in our laws need to be tightened, sentences for gun-related crimes need to be severe, and we as a community must come together to acknowledge and address the issues that lead people to solve their problems with the barrel of a gun," said St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom.
