Mineral Point, MO (KSDK) - A 72-year-old serving concurrent life sentences for murder died Monday morning while in prison.
Inmate James Williams was convicted of two counts of capital murder in the December 1983 deaths of his previous wife, Sharon Williams, and Walter Scott. James Williams received two life without parole sentences running concurrently from St. Charles County.
James Williams died of natural causes.
Walter Scott disappeared shortly after Christmas 1983. In April 1987, his body was found floating face-down in a cistern. He'd been hog-tied and shot in the back. Scott's second wife, JoAnn, pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution in his murder and was sentenced to five years in prison.
Authorities said James Williams had a sexual relationship with JoAnn Scott at the time and the two married in 1986.
