Cahokia, IL (KSDK) - Cahokia police are questioning three high school boys about an alleged assault against a female teacher.

It happened Wednesday shortly after one in the afternoon at Cahokia High School; however, police say it wasn't reported to them until after five yesterday afternoon.

Police describe the incident as sexual in nature.

Sources tell us the teacher, who is in her 30s, was alone in a room with the four boys when it happened.

What exactly did happened is not clear at this time. Police are keeping the details to themselves as they put their case together.

They are saying the teacher has bruises on one of her breasts and a wrist.

Investigators say they've gotten 50 calls or so about this incident. Those calls have included everything from anonymous tips to a call from the state Department of Children and Family Services.

That phone call, police say, changed the scope of the investigation, although they aren't saying how.

"These are strange times for us in education and to our surprise people are not making wise choices and not doing good things, both on students side as well as adult," said Cahokia Schools Superintendent Pam Manning.

Police say two of the three students are cooperating with them. They have not been charged, but police do expect charges to come.

The teacher is on paid leave.
