St. Clair County, IL (KSDK) - Another suspicious fire in St. Clair County. That makes seven in the last couple of weeks.
The latest happened early Friday morning when a cabin burned at a YMCA camp outside of Belleville.
The cabin is destroyed. Authorities aren't saying exactly what, but there was evidence here that suggests this is arson, and that it may be connected to six other fires in and around the Freeburg community.
The newest one happened overnight. Smithton Firefighters got the call just before 4 a.m.
The cabin was up in flames when they got there. Nobody was living in the cabin at the time, but it is used for maintenance crews on the grounds of the YMCA camp.
Like the other fires in and around Freeburg, this one took place in an unoccupied structure in unincorporated St. Clair County, but there is one difference in this case.
"The rest of the fires that we've been responding to have all been metal framed barns with equipment and everything in there as well," said Chief Mike Schutzenhofer.
This is a wood structure, which may not be that significant.
There is an arson hotline number you can call if you have any information: 800-252-2947.
There's also a $10,000 reward offered for information that leads to the arrest of an arsonist or prevents arson.
