St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - The Gateway to the West is also a gateway to reading.
Kicking off the summer reading season, Amazon.com released the results of its Most Well-Read Cities survey on Tuesday, and St. Louis was one of three Midwestern cities to rank among the top 20.
Amazon.com said its rankings are determined by compiling sales data of all book, magazine and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle formats since June 1, 2011, on a per capita basis in cities with more than 100,000 residents.
St. Louis came in 18th, joined by fellow Midwestern cities Ann Arbor, Michigan (4th) and Cincinnati, Ohio (19th). Alexandria, Virginia; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Berkeley, California; and Boulder, Colorado round out the top five, respectively.
