Columbia, IL (KSDK) - St. Louis County police, Columbia, Illinois police, and officers with the Illinois State Police Crime lab are near the intersection of Rueck Parkway and Lovell Landing in Columbia, Illinois after capturing two suspects that fled from south St. Louis County.

Chief Joe Edwards with the Columbia Police Department says around 6 p.m. a St. Louis County officer noticed a white truck in the parking lot of the Walmart on Telegraph Road was registered as stolen.

A man and woman were sitting inside the truck, and as the officer got out of his vehicle to question the suspects, they began to drive, and tried to run over the officer.

The suspects then drove eastbound on Interstate 255 into Columbia, Illinois.

Columbia police officers put out spike strips, and the suspects crashed the car behind a home on Lovell Landing.

There was then an altercation between officers and the suspects, and St. Louis County officers fired shots at the suspects.

The suspects had a weapon, but never shot at the police.

Both suspects were apprehended a short time later, and are currently held at the Columbia Police Department.

Two officers had to be checked out by paramedics, but were determined to be okay.

The suspects are expected to be charged Tuesday.
