(The Chirp ) -- The Cardinals have placed Infielder / Outfielder Skip Schumaker on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 31. Schumaker left the game against Atlanta on May 30 with a right hamstring strain.

Allen Craig has been activated from the D.L. to replace Schumaker. Craig will return to the lineup after missing 14 games with a left hamstring strain.

The club also announced that left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman was recalled from Triple-A Memphis. The 24-year-old Freeman will be making his Major League debut. Freeman began the 2012 season in Double-A Springfield going 1-3 with a 1.56 ERA in 15 games (3ER/17.1IP). In Memphis Freeman has pitched 6.0 innings in six games, allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and recording five strikeouts. Freeman was selected in the 32nd round (965 overall) in the June 2008 draft out of the University of Kansas.

He will wear number #61 for the Cardinals.
