St. Louis (KSDK) -- As the US Gymnastics Olympic Trials kick off in one week, a former champion is facing a new battle.

The most decorated US gymnast Shannon Miller was in St. Louis for the Visa Championships a few weeks ago.

In January 2011, Miller was diagnosed with ovarian cancer when doctors found a tumor the size of a baseball.

For many women, its not just the treatment that takes a toll physically and mentally on their bodies, there's also the emotional struggle of losing your hair.

For Miller, that was her new reality and she vowed to help others in the same situation embrace being bald. When she underwent chemotherapy, her own prognosis wasn't a priority, it was that her son Rocco and how he might react or be afraid of how she looked.

Miller said he "took it like a champ" and just looked at it as mommy's new hairstyle. From that point on, she compared it to a fall in competition.

She turned this horrible situation into a way to help others. Her company, Shannon Miller Lifestyle, encompasses all the things that have helped her along the way.

The key is not only eating healthy, but truly living a healthy lifestyle.
