Cuba, MO (KSDK) - One person was killed when a severe storm passed through Cuba, Missouri Saturday night.

Crawford County Coroner Paul Hutson said Kayla Martin, 28, was sitting in her car on the parking lot of Alps Grocery store when flying debris crashed through the windshield of her car and struck her in the chest.

Martin had pulled into the parking lot during the storm.  She was parked next to her brother and talking to him on her cell phone when the debris struck her car.

Martin was still conscious when EMS arrived on the scene.  She died in the ambulance on the way to Phelps County Regional Hospital in Rolla.

Her brother was also injured in the incident.  His injuries are not believed to life threatening.

Martin was engaged to be married and was the mother of two children. She had given birth to a daughter two weeks ago and also had a son.

She was a 2002 graduate of Steelville, MO and was employed as the manager of the Phillips 66 Gas Mart in Cuba at the time of her death.

Law enforcement reported to the National Weather Service that a downburst occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. Saturday.

Some of the damage reports include building collapses, vehicle rollovers and numerous downed power lines.

Much of the town was without power Saturday night due to downed power lines.  Near the intersection of Smith and N. Washington an Alps Grocery Store sustained damage.

Just down the street crews raced darkness to cover a hole in the roof of the Cuba Post Office.
