Lincoln County, MO (KSDK) -

An overpass at Highway 79 and Hwy C in Old Monroe will be named in honor of a fallen Marine for his service and sacrifice to our country.

Lance Corporal Patrick W. Schimmel was killed in action in 2009 in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan. Schimmel, who graduated from Winfield High School in 2006, was 21-years-old.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

A dedication ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, September 1, at the Old Monroe Legion Hall to commemorate the naming of the overpass.

Several veteran groups raised the money to dedicate the memorial in his name. All veteran groups who donated to the memorial are invited as well as the public.
