According to Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman, deputies were investigating an animal abuse report at a home in the 34400 block of Highway 63 on Wednesday, September 26. They noticed animals that appeared to be malnourished and were without food and water.

Sheriff's deputies applied for a search warrant and came back the next day with members of the Humane Society of Missouri and Missouri Department of Agriculture. They found dogs, cats, pigs, cows and horses in dire need of medical attention.  More animals may be seized at a later date.

Sheriff Heitman said the owner has not been formally charged yet, but charges are expected.
