St. Louis (KSDK) - The St. Louis Board of Police Commissioners met in an emergency session Wednesday to begin the process of choosing a new chief. This comes just two days after Chief Dan Isom announced he's retiring to take a teaching position in the criminology department at the University of Missouri - St. Louis.
The board will begin soliciting companies to do background, psychological and other tests on 22 potential candidates, and the process doesn't end there.
"We came up with the idea of making sure we add a focus group and look at what the community is looking for in a leader. We've also added a couple of pieces looking forward I think getting the rank and file and their pieces as well," said Police Board President Richard Gray.
The commissioners are expected to make a decision before Thanksgiving.
Chief Isom begins his new job in January.
