South St. Louis (KSDK) - A 47-year-old would-be robber is in jail Tuesday morning, accused of trying to rob a fast food restaurant.

Investigators say the unidentified suspect walked into the White Castle in the 1000 block of South Vandeventer around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and placed an order for cheeseburgers.

While the order was being prepared, the man announced a robbery and indicated he had a gun.  The clerk on-duty sounded the restaurant alarm system and the suspect ran from the business.

Police arrived and located their suspect stumbling around the area of Sarah and Vandeventer where he was identified as the person who tried to rob the White Castle.

No injuries were reported and the man is held pending formal charges.
