MORRISON, IL (AP) - Nicholas Sheley's murder trial has continued with testimony from the doctor who performed the autopsy on one of the accused spree killer's alleged victims.
The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports Dr. Scott Denton on Thursday described the autopsy of 93-year-old Russell Reed of Sterling. Sheley is accused in Reed's death and the killings of seven other people in Illinois and Missouri. He has pleaded not guilty.
Denton said he found defensive wounds on Reed's left hand, dislocated bones, bruises and five broken ribs among other injuries. He told jurors some wounds came from a blunt object.
Thursday is the fourth day of testimony in the trial. Sheley has already been sentenced to life in prison for the bludgeoning death of a Galesburg man.
