Memphis, TN (WMC/CNN) - One Memphis trick-or-treater got a real spook when he was robbed at gunpoint by a carload of masked criminals.

"I was walking back from a place my mother told me not to go with my brother," said Daniel Palmer.

Palmer regrets not heeding his mother's warning Halloween night after the Soulsville Charter School student says he was robbed at gunpoint around 11:30 p.m. near an intersection in the Parkway Village neighborhood of Memphis.

"They told me empty my pockets or I get shot. So, when they pointed the gun to my head I emptied all my pockets and they took my phone," said Palmer.

They also took a bunch of the Halloween candy he had collected.

"They took some of it. Half of the bag," he said.

Palmer says one of the armed men had a mask similar to his. Another had a mask that looked like a devil.

He says there were five robbers in all, most of whom stayed in the car during the crime.

"When he called me and told me he had got robbed, my whole inside dropped," said his mother, Katherine Taylor.

Taylor, who was not at home at the time, said she knew something bad might happen if he stayed out too late, but, "Like I told them, I could have been with y'all and they still would have tried to rob me too, you know?'

Palmer says he and his older brother split up when they saw the car creeping up behind them. He cried on his walk back home.

"Trying to get God to help me out through that situation," he said.
