(The Chirp) -- Our good friend Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reported this morning that Adam Wainwright, who is under contract with the St. Louis Cardinals through next season "wants to stay and thinks he will."
Wainwright tells Goold: "I don't see any reason why we shouldn't make that happen. ... It's not like I have one foot out the door (to free agency). If I'm being honest, they have to show they respect what I've done and what I will do. And they have. They have. So I don't think it will be a problem."
So far, the club has made no official comment to KSDK regarding their position on Wainwright or any talks that may have occured, but if all indications from Goold's article are correct, Cardinal Nation could expect to see Wainwright in a Cardinal uniform for the foreesable future.
Barring any health issues, 2013 will mark the first year since 2010 that the Cardinals could start a healthy Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright in the same rotation.
We'll continue to follow this story as it develops this winter.
