St. Charles County, MO (KSDK) - The Missouri Department of Transportation says traffic on the Blanchette Bridge moved well Monday night during the first evening rush period since traffic was shifted to the eastbound side of the bridge for reconstruction work.
Traffic on the two closest alternate routes, Route 370 and Route 364, was high.
"People did the right thing today to avoid the Blanchette Bridge and to use other options," said MoDOT St. Louis District Engineer Ed Hassinger. "We saw a shift in traffic peak times, which means that people are shifting the time of their commute. People should continue what they're doing and we'll continue monitoring the roadways and sharing that information with the public."
MoDOT closed the westbound side of the Blanchette Bridge on November 4 and shifted traffic so that both directions of Interstate 70 are on the eastbound side of the bridge.
Work is expected to be complete in fall 2013.
