St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A north St. Louis County man has been sentenced to life in prison in the injuring of a St. Louis Police Officer who was wounded by gunfire in 2010.

Arthur Lee Jones, 24 of Bridgeton, was convicted last month of assault of a police officer and armed criminal action charges stemming from the incident.  Jones was ordered to serve 15 years in prison for the assault and the concurrent life term for the use of a gun in the attack.

Authorities say Jones was in the 4600 block of Margaretta just after midnight that November 25th, when an officer on patrol noticed suspicious activity and confronted Jones.

The officer shined his spotlight on Jones who then turned towards the officer and opened fire.

One of the bullets fried by Jones went through the patrol car door and struck the officer.  Jones then fled the shooting scene to an apartment building in the 4000 block of Cora where SWAT and Hostage Response officers sealed the area and located Jones and the weapon used to assault the officer.
