St. Ann, Mo (KSDK) -- The ground has been broken and the renovation of Northwest Plaza is underway.
The former St. Louis County mall will be transformed in to the Crossings at Northwest.
Eighty-percent of the mall will be demolished starting in the next few months. Demolition is expected to last a year.
The tower will stay and be used for office space. Mini box stores and restaurants will be added to the redevelopment. Menard's is expected to be the first tenant.
The Crossings at Northwest is expected to open in 2014.
The project is expected to cost $106-million. NewsChannel 5 learned over the summer that about $30-million of the project will be paid for by tax money.
