Old North St. Louis (KSDK) - A smoky fire that filled both floors of a building at the corner of 23rd and Warren Streets early this morning remains under investigation.

Two injuries have been reported at the fire scene, including one St. Louis firefighter who was transported to the hospital, and a man who escaped the burning building, but was overcome by smoke.  He was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 4:20 a.m. Thursday after they received a call from a neighbor who was informed of the fire by a man living inside the building.

Firefighters were able to get inside the building, but not before cutting a hole through the roof of the two story structure due to security bars on all of the ground level windows.
