St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A local high school student is being questioned by police after bringing a weapon onto school campus earlier in the week, the University City School District said.
In a statement released Friday, the district said an employee at the Lieberman Learning Center found an unloaded and inoperable firearm on the grounds late Wednesday afternoon.
The district turned the weapon over to the University City Police Department and launched an investigation to determine who brought the gun the Lieberman Learning Center.
A student was eventually identified. Since he's a minor, the student has not been named, according to the district.
The University City School District said it has a zero tolerance policy for bringing weapons onto school grounds and the student in question will be disciplined in accordance with the district's handbook.
The district will send a letter home to parents Friday, encouraging them to remind their children that weapons are not allowed on school property and to report unsafe situations to teachers or a trusted adult.
